I Love Rock-A-way, Put another kite in the air Baby!

Today was the annual American KiteFliers Assication fly off in Rockway / Riis Park
This is the first year I was prepared (waiting and ready) to take pictures.
Althought my camera is not the greatest, I got some good shots and some would be suitible backgrounds for Windows XP.
From far awaqy it looked as though there was an alien invasion taking place with the floating octopus. One of the cool points about this display was the kite of the diver. It looked as though he was actually swimming along with them.
There was also a very cool kite of a penguin flying. You know I got many pics of that one!
Other highlights, A guitar, a pig, an old clipper and a dragon fly.
Check out my Gallery for the pics.

Back to the grind... again....
So ends my vacation. and now I'm back to the grind.
Frankly... I'm not too keen on it.. Then again, who is after coming off a 2 week vacation.
Overall it's been fun.
I did a lot of cycling, hanging out at the beach, swimming.
Some Partying, tubing, visited Rye Playland, Saw the Rockaway fireworks (of which I missed 3 years in a row) and had 2 BBQ's...
I'm already looking forward to the weekend.. and I just got here! LOL!!!!!
This weekend brings my nephew's birthday party and the Cotrone family picnic at Lido Beach.
Should be good.
Ahhhh.. It sucks to be back LOL!

Tubing down Esopus Creek
John, Ian and I went tubing down the Esuop Creek in Tinker Town Upstate NY.
(Ian is the guitarist in the picture gallery for Loney Rock's Party)
It was quite a refreshing blast!
The trip in itself was fun as Ian's attempt to avoid the NY state thruway turned into a major scenic ride upstate. The roads were sparsly traveled, winding and picturesque. Although we arrived an hour past our target time I would have to say it was worth it. We traveled up through Kingston finally reaching our destination in Phonecia.
The tubing experience was a thrill for me as I was born a water rat (as was John). There were some mini rapis and mini water falls moung a hot day ina refreshing creek. We met two gals and travelled along side as we avoided some areas (Rocks & Trees) and headed for others (rapids and water falls).
I thought i was going to fall out and drown laughing as Me and one of the gals watched John roll over this huge rock! I'm yelling "John go left go left go left" and we heard "what? I can't hear you" Then watched john roll down a 4 foot drop. Fortunately he did not fall out.
I elected to make another run, Ian and John choose to explore the "mini" one horse town.
We ate at a local establishment which served the most delectable smoked pork meals and portions of which none of us could finish.
We ended the ride down the NY state thruway. Not quite as picturesque, but still cool with the cool company.
I'm sure I'll wake up sore tomorrow.
I had to redo the waterfall about 4 times on the second run to get my money's worth. I gotta tell ya, when you dump in the rapids.. It's an effort just to get back in the tube! hahaha.
Can't wait to do it again!
Thanks Ian!

Rockaway Sunset Diner SOLD!
A bit of "local" news from my home town.
Just read today in Rockaway's Wave that Rockaway's Sunset Diner is being sold.
This saddens me as it is one of my second favorite fast food joints...
OK, it's only a diner, but then again, I know the owners and they always take care of me.
It's got a great view too!
I also read that Steve plans to turn his other business, The Beach Club, into another apartment building on 116th street.
It was bad enough when The Beach Club shifted from a restaraunt to a catering hall, Now we loose the other eatery as well. Although Rockaway's had a new restaurants pop up on 116th, Nothing beats a Beach Chip/SUnset Diner Burger or Wing Zings... *sigh*.
BTW, The Beach Club is hosted by Larry with HostASite.Com

Merry new year to All... and to all a healthy happy future
So I bring the new year in with a smash.. Mainly "me" being smashed.
I write this as I slurp another Peanut Butter & Jelly Shot. These happen to be a new favorite drink of mine. Not too potent where you shiver, not to lame that there is no kick.. and an after taste I love. I recommend a taste test to all.
![]() | ![]() |
Peanut Butter & Jelly Shots
1 Part Chambord liqueur
1 Part Franjelico Hazelnut liqueur
Serve Chilled, and Sip.
OK, so it's supposed to be a shot.. I make it with a shot of each using chilled liquers, then sip it so I can savor the flavor.
Also this christmas my brother had me try some Godiva Chocolate liquer with it. By adding a smidge, which floats on the top, it adds a nice choclate taste.. mmm mmm mmm..
This could be my downfall! I think I like them too much!
Thanks to Tricia for turning me onto these!
On Another note.. my heart sank this eve watching Dick Clark and seeing his condition. For so many years he's been entertaining me on this eve and it broke my heart to see his condition, yet gave me hope for his tenacity and desire to over come all.

Bayville Haunted FireHouse
Tonight we head out to our annual Trek to The Bayville Haunted Fire House
Those who have never experienced this... You should! it's a volunteer effort by The Bayville Fire Company.
Cost is $10.00 and it goes to supporting the local fire company. The wait is long, but well worth it. They really do a great job of making a scary haunted house. Where else can you donate $10.00 and be entertained at the same time?
