Post Op Follow Up

Today was Tricia's post op follow up for the second operation (on the same eye).

Tricia happens to be in alot of pain. More so then the last time.
The Dr. said the bandage might not have been on tight enough (we did see it lift off) and subsequently may have scratched her cornea when she opened the eye.
The eye was numb at the time so she would not have felt it until the medicine wore off.
(which is what seems to have happened).

So for the next few days she will litterally have to sit there with her eyes closed to avoid the pain.

The Dr. prescribed some drops and recommended an over the counter product called Genteal. It's in a tube and a thick forumula for tears. Tricia said it is very soothing.

Overall the Dr. said the operation was successful and there was no internal bleeding in the eye.
There was however, some surface bleeding when the tool was removed from the eye.
So on first look her eye is all bloodshot. Most importantly is the success of the re-attachment an d no internal bleeding. We'll see how next weeks post op follow up comes out.

I am forwarding all notes and well wishes. She loves hearing from y'all. Thanks.

Under the knife again

I found out last Thursday that Tricia has to go for another operation on her eye.
The same one that was recently operated on.

It seems that the edges of the retina are lifting up and the Dr.has to go in again to see what is going on,

This put a bit of a damper on Prog Power as I've been very concerned.
The Dr. made a comment that he had to go in 5 times for one person.

Today was the operation and the Dr. said that everything went well.
He extracted the fluid, did more laser surgury on the edges and put new fluid back in.
He put a shorter acting gas bubble this time around so she'll have vision sooner.

It seems that now the other eye is giving Tricia trouble and is deteriorating rapidly. It will have to undergo the same procedure.

To those that have expressed thier well wishes I have forwarded them along.
Tricia said "Thank you for all your support"

Tricia's post op followup Week 3

Post up follow up Week 3. Encouraging Results. The Dr. said "everything looks great". Internal bleeding in the eye is reduced, Ultrasound shows retina attached, gas bubble is diminishing. Although Tricia can not see out of the eye yet, she can face upright, which is a big plus. It's hard to imagine what it's lke facing down constantly for two weeks. So it looks like we'll all be seeing her online soon!

They gave her a different medicine to combat the naseau and she was able to eat (and therefore leave).

All is well so far.

Tricia is doing well.
No complications, Just allot of pain and nausea.
I can't even imagine the pain. She can barely move without the soreness.
Then there's the bloated feeling of gases that were pumped inside the body that now have to dissapate.

We were told by one of the nurses they put carbon dioxide inside to inflate the abdomen.

The difficult part is belching it out which is causing excruciating pain.

The Percocet helps, but when it wears off... OMG!!!

She was able to sip water, ginger ale and broth.
Eat a few pretzels and a bite of a knish.

Hey, the Dr. said she could eat a steak if she was up to it..
She skipped on that choice.

She was able to get up and walk down the hallway.

So things are looking good so far.

The scars are minimal. 4 small incisions around the abdomen.
The remove it from the belly button. I can't get the image of it being removed from my mind. Sometimes it really sucks having a vivid imagination.

She should be home on Wednesday.

Those who want to wish her well can leave coments here, on her myspace profile Tricia on Myspace.Com or contact me directly for her email address. I'm sure she would love to hear from y'all.

She was happy to hear everyone's well wishes when I told her today.

A special thanks to Samantha, her friend who works in the E.R.
She made sure she got everything needed by going directly to the source when things went awry.
If I'm ever ill, I want Samantha to be my friend too!

Surgery Complete, Out of the Danger Zone

Tricia's surgery has been completed.
She is in the recovery room now.

Everything went well according to the surgeon.
he said he was surprised she was not in more pain.
The gall bladder was very diseased and had started to die on the inside.

Sheesh!

If everything is good, she'll be at home tonight.

Off to the Hospital I go.

Tricia is in the hospital

Tricia was admintted to the North Shore LIJ Hospital tonight.

We've been at the emergency room all day.

Tricia woke up with major pain in her stomach today.
We attributed it to eating Taco Hell last night.

Refried Beans, Cola, Then a late Wendy's snack..
Yep.. that should give you some work out for the tummy..

We figured the gaseous foods or food poisining.

Unfortunatly it's worse.

After a number of tests the Dr came over to us in the emergency room and said she had gall stones. They affected her gall bladder so bad it's very infected.
He said it must be removed.

Although people say there are useless organs, it still is disconcerting to have someone tell you they need to remove a part of you that nature made.

The second Dr (the one who will do the actual surgery) said it's possible to dissolve the gall stones with medication, but it will take a year and they will come back as soon as you stop the medication.

Fortunate for Trica, she knows a lot of people in the emergency room. Many of her friends are in that line of work. She was treated well and they made sure she was as comfortable as possible.

A funny part of this is (if you can see any humor in it) they gave her morphine for the pain. It was a bit funny seeing them put the medicine in her IV and seeing the facial reactions for the first 10 minutes. Tricia never taking any form of drugs, now knows what it's like to be doped up a bit.

All kidding aside, it's been said the removal is a fairly simple surgery.

They will be doing Laparoscopic cholecystectomy - or 'keyhole' surgery. A number of small incisions are made through the skin, allowing access to a range of instruments. The gall bladder is removed through one of the incisions. (the belly button).

Pretty scary (to me at least).

As the night wore on and she felt better we were all able to kid around a little.
At one point we asked the resident who was explaining procedure if we could keep it after removal. Tricia then said she wanted to give it to her close friend Samantha (who works in ER and was by her bedside as much as possible). The two played along.. and the resident's face was a sight to see. LOL!

We do not know what time the procedure will occur because it is an add on.
I'll update more as I can.
